Blessed is this Life

In the past month (ish), we have been to two weddings, a funeral, celebrated the resurrection of our Savior, welcomed a 4 pound 5 ounce miracle named Stella Marie into the world, born to parents who've been trying for years and years to have a baby, counseled friends in need, been a listening ear and a shoulder to cry on, we've loved family, hated cencer, enjoyed watching our own baby boy grow, learn, play, and had a very cherished, memorable, absolutely perfect first Mother's Day.

With all of the ups and downs, I have been reminded like a slap in the face of a few things:

Life is here.
Life is now.
It's good sometimes and bad. It's happy and it's sad.
Life is ours.

Let's LIVE.

Big E

The second post. I'm on a roll. :)

It's April 21, 2009 and it's my brother's birthday. He's 20 years old today, which is completely insane to me. How did he get so old ?

I left home to go to college when he was 11. When I left, he was a little short, chubby kid with cute cheeks, spiky hair with blonde highlights, and a farmer's tan from playing outside all the time. He was a kid who never thought girls had cooties, loved to talk in crazy voices, hated to take showers, and doused himself with body spray called "Bod - Really Ripped Abs"

(that to this day makes me gag when I catch a whiff of it) to make himself smell good enough to not take a bath. He had a sidekick, Tucker, with whom he had "picnics on the roof", eating chocolate pudding and beef jerky before posing on the side of the road with their bikes strategically placed and red paint on their faces to see how many people would stop and help them with their "bike wreck". He had a magic spell over my parents that could convince him to let him do ANYTHING!

He whistled and flashed the porch lights on when I was getting a goodnight kiss from boys I dated. He hid under my bed and scared me to death when I least expected it. He made me mad enough to cry and laugh so hard I peed my pants. He's the center of attention everywhere he goes without even trying to be. He has more potential than he even realizes. He is amazingly gifted. He is one of a kind.

I can't protect him, but I want to.
I can't tell him what to do, but I try to.
I can't see him as often as I should, but I wish I could.

HOW does time go by SO FAST?!?!?

Eric - - have a birthday as happy as the memories I have of you. Coop is so lucky to have a
"Big E" like you. I'm lucky to have a brother like you. We love you to the moon!!!

Here we go...

SO, here it is. My entrance into the blogging world! Well, sort-of…

In my attempt to keep people informed and updated and “in the know” about all things Murphy, I have somehow gotten myself wrapped up into SEVERAL different websites. A constant procrastinator, I find myself catching up on those websites one by one, usually finishing the last update just in time to update the first one again. Sorry, Shutterfly, Myspace, Totsites, Facebook. We have to break up. I had real good intentions, but it just didn’t work out for me. It’s not you. It’s me. (OK, so I could NEVER ever break up with Facebook. I really love it lately. I’m borderline addicted)

Life is flying by in an unbelievable blur. I didn’t mind when the days and weeks and months went by fast before Cooper (ESPECIALLY during the school year), but gosh… He was 6 months old on April 5th. He’s half of a year old. And in no way could I have ever prepared myself for how quickly he would grow. People always say.. “They grow up so fast.” It’s such a cliché! It doesn’t mean anything until you actually see someone grow up right in front of your eyes. Man, they really do grow up SO fast. I would be willing to slow down this time in his life. I could handle the first year or two going by MUCH slower and the teenage years going by MUCH faster. Let’s all talk to God about that.

Spring is my favorite-avorite time of the year. The weather has been amazing, and I love watching everything turn bright and green. I love that the extra daylight helps us to enjoy it longer. The world kind-of wakes up. It’s too bad our cars have to turn yellow in order for everything to turn green. Still - - It’s a beautiful time of the year. A sure sign of spring in our neck of the woods is when the dogwood trees bloom. If you’ve never heard legend of the dogwood tree you should look into it. Chad first told me about it and I love being reminded of the story every year. My cousins have a blog that they keep regularly updated (www.ichoosetolove.com) that reveals an awesome analogy about winter turning into spring. It is beautifully written and I guess it was a motivator for a blog on this particular subject. I think that the words I read there will, like the dogwood tree, be with me each year as we watch spring come to see us.
